Portrait shoot: Lara

Model: Lara. Canon 7d with a EF 50mm F 1.8 lens and uv filter attached. ISO 800 50mm F 2.8 1/125.

Just wanted to post one image from yesterdays photo shoot. This was my first sit down shoot with an actual model..Someone other than myself. Lara is a good friend who graciously volunteered her time to further my photographic goals. Of course with all learning endeavours some shots did not work or were out of focus but all in all it was a very successful shoot.

I am by no means an expert at this type of photography but it is something that I have really wanted to start doing…Especially when I can’t go out for hiking trips. This is again one of those things were you can do lots of reading about portrait work but you really have to get out there and just start doing it. It was a really big confidence booster for me as I did not think I would be good at giving someone direction and being specific about what I wanted her to do.

I had a simple lighting setup…Two light stands with  umbrellas and 85 watt cfl bulbs and a gray backdrop. This shot was taken from up above with me standing on a piece of furniture. We had fun with the shoot and I made some nice images…A good time was had by all. Hopefully this will be another new direction for me with my photography!
