Rising waters

Canon 7d/ Canon EF 75-300 F4-5.6. Induro tripod and ballhead. B+W circular polarizer. ISO 100, 300mm, F 16 @ 1/40. Perkins Pier. Burlington, Vermont.

I shot this with my long lens a few weeks ago just as the flooding was starting here in Burlington. I was out wandering around early one morning on a rare vacation day for me and this day was really foggy out on Lake Champlain. The area in the image here is already well under water…There is a granite block wall where these barge poles are and a small park with benches sticking out into the Lake.

There was a small strip of grass left to walk out to this area on and being an intrepid photographer I took the opportunity to make an image of this seagull sitting on the barge pole. He sat still just long enough for me to grab an image and while I was doing that another one flew away right between the two poles…You can see him flying away in the distance.
