Stairway to the clouds

Canon 7d/ Canon 17-40mm F4 L series lens. UV filter. Induro at-113 tripod and bhd-1 ballhead. 9 image HDR capture processed in Lightroom 3, Photomatix Pro 4 and Focal Point 2.

This image came from another wondering session in our local rail yard. As you all know the early spring here was quite wet with lots of flooding so I had to think creatively about what I was shooting….And also what was dry too! I really liked these old and rusty stairs on the side of this huge drum but a straight on shot just wouldn’t do here. I wanted an image which highlighted the stairs and not much else so I chose a vantage point low to the ground.

The clouds were really bad on this day…Low, Flat and pretty shapeless. The best part about making this image was that just for a few moments the clouds formed some decent shapes and floated by…Holding their position long enough for me to get a HDR bracket.
